About us

Who we are.

We have been working at the intersection of technology, democracy and civic space in Latin America for more than seven years. In that time we have built methodological expertise, trusted relationships with strategic partners and a deep understanding of the region's digital ecosystem.

Our origins

2018

Mission

"We empower civil society organizations to play an active, informed and critical role in the digital public debate in Latin America."

Linterna Verde was founded in 2018 on a conviction: that Latin American civil society needs better tools to understand and participate in the digital debates that shape public opinion and define the fate of causes. We are an independent non-profit organization dedicated to monitoring and analyzing public conversation on social platforms and digital ecosystems in the region.

We combine qualitative and quantitative methodologies to identify opportunities and risks in the digital environment, understand the narratives and actors shaping public debate, and analyze dynamics of manipulation and disinformation. Our research work is complemented by capacity building in organizations, journalists and media, and the articulation of key actors around a regional agenda on technology and democracy.

Our purpose is to reduce asymmetries in access to technical knowledge, analytical capacity and understanding of the digital environment, so that civil society can participate in an informed and critical way in the debates that affect it.

How we work

Our principles.

— 01

Our work must be actionable.

We produce inputs that inform concrete decisions, strategies and actions for those who defend democracy and human rights in the digital environment.

— 02

We value both data and story.

We combine quantitative rigor with qualitative understanding because we know that neither is sufficient on its own.

— 03

We build with others.

We recognize that our work gains meaning when we operate in alliance with those who share the purpose of strengthening digital democracy.

— 04

We speak from Latin America.

We are connected to the global agenda on technology and democracy, but our perspective, questions and priorities come from the region.

What we do

Lines of work.

01

Monitoring and research

We monitor public conversation on digital platforms and investigate how online ecosystems shape democratic processes and civic space in Latin America. We apply quantitative and qualitative methodologies to translate the complexity of digital debate into actionable knowledge for organizations, activists, journalists and human rights defenders.

02

Training and capacity building

We develop tools, guides and training programs so that journalists, activists and civil society organizations can navigate digital debate, counter disinformation and strengthen their capacity for influence. It is not just about countering false narratives, but about repositioning causes and values in a fragmented public space.

03

Connecting actors

We foster an informed regional agenda on technology and democracy, connecting researchers, journalists, activists and decision-makers to build collective responses to digital challenges.
